FOCUS
Sculpural Marine Habitat Installation(Third of Series)
"The ocean can be a metaphor for better understanding life itself."
Ross Power

The ocean is the largest ecosystem on our planet and there is a dramatic imbalance that must be addressed. Scientific facts alone are not enough to attract the necessary attention to make a difference. Unifying art and science is the innovative tool needed for raising public awareness by creating public interest.
Stainless Steel - 8 FT High x 14 FT Wide
Engineered from stainless steel and anchored to the seabed, FOCUS is designed to withstand the hundred year storm and all other ocean elements while becoming the epicenter of its own ecosystem, much like the coral head in a reef system. Dr. Lee Harris of the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida created the stability analysis and other engineering requirements needed to obtain a permit from Miami's Department of Environmental

Regulation for a permanent installation three miles off the coastline of Miami Beach. The location, in 40 feet of water, will be monitored by the Florida International University's Marine Biology Department in order to study the evolution of focus as it changes from its current appearance as a starship into the resemblance of a starfish.
